Mathew has been sponsored since 2005, when he was 5 years old
Joshua is a younger brother of Sherin-Rose, and he is a lovely boy, a real cheeky chappy!
Jolene's mother Tania left her unattended with Jolene`s Grandmother Minna and her two children in a small house. Tania lives with a new husband and they have a child together. They don't help with Jolene's welfare. Minna is unemployed but sometimes does domestic work. She cannot afford to look after the things which are needed for Jolene.
Kim`s parents are married. Her mother is unemployed and her father does casual work. Kim was sponsored from 2009 until 2015 when she began remedial classes. We plan to include remedial teaching when our own school opens in 2017
Tayreez lives with his mother Melissa in a very small house which contains only one room and a bathroom. Since she was pregnant her family rejected her and Tayreez father left her. Melissa raises her son without help from her family or from Tayreez' father, who has no contact with him and also doesn`t support him financially.
Siyanda has been sponsored since he was in the Hope and Light creche in 2009. His father is unemployed and they live in a very small house. Siyanda dreams of becoming a doctor one day.
Chamelle's mother died in 2010 when Chamelle was 4 years old. Her eldest sister looked after her and her four siblings and her own 2 children until she moved away. Chamelle has been sponsored since 2011, when her sponsor visited Hope and Light in South Africa, and met her.
Adrian has been sponsored since May 2012 by a lady who spends some time every year in South Africa
Peythan lives with her parents in a Wendy house. Her younger brother lives with friends due to financial difficulty. Older brother lives with his grandparents. Father is unemployed. Her mother does voluntary work in the community and gets a small salary. Help was needed desperately when Peythan was sponsored in 2011.
Michael's family arrived in the village from Zimbabwe and are desperately poor. There is an older brother as well, they were both very quiet when they started at the school, but have blossomed wonderfully since Michael was sponsored in 2011.
Ayabonga - a little Xhosa boy - lived with his mother in a small house in Sir Lowry`s Pass Village when his sponsorship began in 2011. His father moved back to the Transkei when he was 1 year and 3 months old and broke off the relationship with him and his mother. Ayabongas mother lost her job when her employer moved. After that they were dependent on a small grant and help was needed desperately.
Elihle is one of three children living with their happily married parents. She attends our creche and is in Grade R now (2016). She has been attending Ons Speelnessie for 3 years. Elihle is always neat and tidy, and she attends school regularly. Her mother recently became unemployed and her father does temporary work at a Construction Company. Elihle is a real “ go getter” and wants to learn everything. Her sponsorship began in 2016.
Zoe’s mother Claudia is a single-parent who lives with her daughter in her parent’s house. Claudia only has occasional temporary work. Zoe enjoys being at our school, and since she started at the crèche she has made great progress, which is very pleasing because in the past she was a very shy and withdrawn child. Now she can communicate and socialize with her classmates. She is growing up in a Christian home because of her grandparents. Zoe has been sponsored since 2014.
Noah lives with his parents and five other siblings. His father is unemployed, so his mother is the only breadwinner. All the children attended the Hope and Light Crèche in the past, and are making excellent progress now at the Primary School. The family have a strong Christian faith and support all the children. Noah’s sponsorship started in 2014.
